Adibah Iqbal on how the Bristol drugs project can support you…

Over 82,000 people in Bristol are affected by drugs and alcohol, according to a national poll in 2009.

So, you’re not alone…

If you’re between the ages 5-16 and living with a parent who uses drugs or alcohol, it can be a hard thing to deal with on your own. But there is support out there.

Bristol Drug Project is a charity that helps over 3,000 people a year. M32 Youth Group is held on Monday evenings, 4.45pm – 6:45pm. This project provides a safe and friendly space to socialise with other young people. They have all sorts of activities, from arts and crafts to cooking lessons. They arrange transport to get you there and take you home, by car or minibus.

But, if you would feel more comfortable with a one-to-one service, there is a mentoring programme. This will give you a chance to speak to someone who was affected by parental drugs and alcohol abuse. You meet every week for a year taking part in various activities. The mentor will be there to speak about any issues you want to.

‘Tackling an alcohol or drug problem can be tough – but there are people making major changes in their lives every day.’ – Bristol Drug Project.
