Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

‘Come, lose yourself in the music, the moment.’ – Eminem

Come down to the Watershed on Saturday and refamiliarise yourself, or get newly acquainted, with the old-skool rap classic 8 Mile. 8 Mile is THE Eminem film about rap, being trapped, and the boom bap. The title of the film comes from ‘8 Mile Road’ in Detroit, felt by people of the city to be a border, cutting off the poorer neighborhoods from the more wealthy suburbs. It is also the psychological line between Jimmy Smith Jnr (Eminem) and who he wants to be.

Planned, produced and delivered by a group of young people in Bristol, this special immersive screening brings you an afternoon of film, music, and more. Come along to experience the atmosphere of the film and be offered choices that will make you think, sending you home inspired and in control of your destiny.

The 18 to 24s from Tomorrow’s People chose to screen 8 Mile because it promotes a “never give up” attitude and depicts important issues that effect young people- then and now. This is a story about family, friendship, hard work, following your dreams and never giving up.

The film screening of 8 Mile starts at 12 noon, at Watershed this Saturday. The film is directly followed with a rap open mic hosted by ‘Bris Ting’ rapper Buggsy featuring local wordsmiths Teez and Mistafire, before opening up the floor to those starting out on the scene.

Tickets for anyone aged 24 and under will cost £4.50. You can book them from the Watershed website or on arrival. The event is co-produced by Compass Presents, Tomorrow’s people and Rife Magazine.
