Puppet Making course

Want to make your very own puppet? Online course for 11 – 16 year olds.

Ongoing opportunity

About the online course

This exciting puppet making course will enable you to gain new skills, grow in confidence and most importantly have fun. You will be learning how to use a variety of different materials to sculpt, design and make your very own puppet.

Puppetry is about bringing objects to life, there are many different forms of puppetry ranging from shadow puppets, table top puppets, muppet puppets, carnival puppets, rod puppets to hand puppets and marionettes. Puppetry is universal but there is no right or wrong way of making and creating a puppet. It’s about experimenting in a creative way, having fun and learning something new to make you feel inspired.

We will be working through the Bronze Arts Award, a great Level 1 qualification which everyone will achieve by the end of the course. At the end of term we will have an online showcase of the puppet you have produced alongside the work from the two other Creative Courses.

How does it work?

Every Wednesday the group will log on to Zoom (a video call service) so we can go through a ‘how to’ guide of the next steps and also see what everyone has done over the last few days. Then on Thursday afternoon we will arrange a time to have an individual catch up with you so if you need specific help or have any questions about what to do we can go over it 1:1 with you.

As this is an online course we will give you as much support as we can over Zoom but it’s important that you are happy and able to do some of the work on your own at home. You will need to be able to access Zoom via a computer/tablet/mobile phone, we will help you get set up with this before the course starts.

Support more young people to have their voices heard

Rife is Watershed‘s online magazine created for young people, by young people.

We offer paid internships and publish work by young writers, photographers, illustrators, and filmmakers from all sorts of backgrounds, helping them get into creative careers. Rife has reached over 8,000 young people through our workshops, over 220 young people have made stuff for Rife on topics ranging from mental health to identity to baked beans, and last year, over 200,000 people visited our website.

In these complex and uncertain times hearing from and supporting young people who are advocating for social change and contributing fresh perspectives has never been so important.

Through supporting Rife you can ensure that this important work continues and that more young people have their voices heard.
