Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Rife Guide has picked the best thing happening this week and next for 16-25 year olds in Bristol- a collaborative painting with Jamaican artist Mathew McCarthy.

Summer has officially begun. Don’t be put of by a bit of cloud and a sprinkle of rain, it’s the time to be out and about enjoying all of the wonderful opportunities Bristol has to offer.

Here’s your chance to get out and get involved in a brilliant two-week collaborative art project with Jamaican artist Mathew McCarthy. You don’t need to be around for the whole two weeks- join in for as long or as little as you want. Combine two loves of art and music and create a large scale, collaborative painting that is inspired by song lyrics and personal identity.

The project is part of RWA and Rising‘s new season, Jamaican Pulse. This major exhibition will celebrate the diversity and legacy of Jamaican art and present contemporary Jamaican artwork alongside pieces from Jamaican art history. Explore the roots of modern Jamaican art, looks at art through a political lense and address how global attitudes towards body, gender, religion, class and sexuality have impacted the small nation island. There are a ton of different events around this season, you can find out about them here.

The two week residency is being held at Easton Community centre from Monday 20th June to Friday 1st July, with a break on Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th. The workshops are completely free but you need to get in contact with Kamina to let her know you are coming along. You can call or text her on: 07752 447 819.

Have you been to any great events recently? We want to know! Tell us all about what you did on Facebook or Twitter, or tag us in a photo on Instagram.
