Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

Pick of the Week: Networking with Professionals

Rife Guide Picks of the Week

Discover what’s on the Rife Guide this week, including the chance to meet industry professionals at a networking event.

Getting a job these days is tough. When over 200 people apply for a single part-time job in Costa, you know things are getting desperate. Almost 500,000 18-24 year olds in the UK are unemployed – the worst figures in 20 years. So what can you do when you’re stuck in the loop of needing work experience before you can gain work experience? Perhaps it’s time to get some help from the experts. Put down that leaflet about unpaid internships and take a look at this.

Babbasa Youth Empowerment Projects (BYEP) inspire young people, helping them to work towards their goals through professional mentoring schemes, events and training programmes. They are an amazing organisation who work with hundreds of young Bristolians, helping them achieve their goals and reach their full potential. This week, BYEP have got a brilliant event happening which could help you meet people in your dream career – and, as you’ve no doubt heard a million times, sometimes, it’s not what you know but who you know.

Ask About Me is an amazing opportunity to meet industry professionals. You’ll get the chance to chat to a load of people, tell them a bit about yourself, and get them thinking about how your skills could fit into their organisation. Everyone who attends the event will be there with a positive attitude towards young people, and the value young people can add to a workplace. There will be professionals attending the event from a diverse range of public and private sector industries: business, media, public service, sports, engineering, IT, education, law and the creative arts.

We can’t guarantee that this event will land you a job, but it’ll give you a better idea about how networking events work. We know these sorts of things can be scary, but this is a completely unique opportunity to meet some influential people – and perhaps even your future boss. Check out the video we made about networking tips, to make sure you’re well prepared before you go.

The event is happening on Saturday, at the Bristol Hotel (just down the road from the fountains, on the Centre). It’s completely FREE to attend this event, but you need to book your ticket in advance. Full details can be found here, on the Rife Guide.

Have you got any tips about networking? Tell us how you’re planning to make the most of opportunities like this on TwitterFacebook or on Instagram.
